About us
About Vinson Morris Children’s Center
Vinson Morris Children’s Center is a Christ-centered preschool and childcare program with a rich legacy of serving families in the Coastal Bend. Since 1962, we have partnered with parents to provide a nurturing, high-quality early childhood experience rooted in faith, learning, and community.
What began as a half-day kindergarten led by Vinson Morris, Director of Christian Education at First United Methodist Church, has grown into a trusted early learning center for children ages 12 months through 5 years. Established as an outreach ministry of the church, our mission continues to reflect a commitment to serving children and families with care and purpose.
Today, Vinson Morris Children’s Center is proud to be nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and recognized as a 4-Star Texas Rising Star program; distinctions that reflect our dedication to excellence in early childhood education. We are licensed by the State of Texas and guided by a Board of Directors made up of both church members and VMCC parents, ensuring strong leadership and community connection.
Our program serves children Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., offering a safe, engaging environment where children grow academically, socially, and spiritually.
At VMCC, we are more than a preschool—we are a place where children are known, loved, and prepared for what’s next.
What Sets Us Apart
⭐ Proven Quality You Can Trust
As a nationally accredited program through NAEYC and a 4-Star Texas Rising Star center, we meet the highest standards in early childhood education—giving families confidence in the care and learning their child receives.
❤️ Relationships First
We believe children thrive when they feel safe, known, and loved. Our teachers build meaningful connections with each child, creating a strong foundation for both learning and emotional growth.
📚 Purposeful, Play-Based Learning
Every day is intentionally designed to prepare children for kindergarten through hands-on experiences, guided exploration, and developmentally appropriate instruction.
🙏 Faith-Centered Foundation
As a ministry of First United Methodist Church, we nurture the whole child—supporting spiritual growth through weekly chapel and daily moments that reflect God’s love and care.
🌿 A Place to Grow and Belong
For over 60 years, families have trusted VMCC to provide a welcoming, community-centered environment where children can confidently grow, explore, and thrive.
Our Mission
The mission of the Vinson Morris Children's Center is to provide a high quality, safe, developmentally appropriate Christ centered environment to support the spiritual, social, emotional, physical, cognitive growth and development of the children of the Coastal Bend.
Our Philosophy
We believe that children learn about the world around them through play, through daily experiences and through interactions with peers and adults. Our program is designed with an understanding of the developmental stages through which preschool children must pass. We believe that children will benefit by teachers and families working closely in partnership. This will ensure high quality care and education for children.
Our Programs
At Vinson Morris Children’s Center, we believe in creating a well rounded school year for your children including many activities that take place in addition to our standard instruction.
-
All of our children take part in chapel twice a week. Pastor Cheri leads chapel with our preschool classes on Tuesday in the FUMC Sanctuary and on Thursdays with our toddlers. Ouida Bliss Richardson, leads Thursday Chapel with our preschoolers on Thursday in the FUMC Chapel.
-
Ouida Bliss Richardson, our VMCC Music Teacher leads a music class with each of our classes on Wednesdays. These classes are focused on voice, rhythm, and tempo.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are for Music and Movement! This fun class is separated by age group and they spend the class exploring genres of music while moving their bodies and playing movement games.
-
Ms Mary hosts art classes each week to expose our students to a variety of art skills while enhancing their fine motor skills.
-
We believe in getting outside and moving our bodies at VMCC! Each class have morning and afternoon outside time on our huge and newly renovated playground. During periods of too hot weather, too cold, rainy, or other factors, we also have a beautiful gym to play games and get our wiggles out.
